Hi. I think it’s important for every woman to choose a therapist who is not only qualified, but a good match for her personality and her issues. So, let me tell you a little about myself so you can decide if I’m the right therapist for you.
First of all, I have a professional self. I received my Masters in Social Work from the University of Tennessee in 1985. Then over the next seven years, I completed additional training and supervision and became a clinical member of American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. I have been licensed in the state of North Carolina as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 1992 and I am a member of the National Association of Social Workers. I am an EMDR certified therapist and a clinical member of EMDRIA. For 38 years, I have provided individual and family therapy in homes, hospitals, churches, and schools. I have also trained managers in the corporate setting and consulted with early intervention programs across the United States. I have been in private practice since 2001..
While I have years of professional training and experience, I also have a personal self. As you can probably already tell, I’m a woman who is old enough to say that I belong to the Baby Boomer generation. So, I’ve been around awhile. I live with my two King Charles Cavaliers, Carly and Sophie, who work with me everyday yet still find time and energy to remind me to play, relax, and have fun! My son David lives in Idaho with his two sons, Simon and Miles and my other son Josh lives in Arizona with his wife, Colleen, and two children, Glenn and Rose. I enjoy visiting whenever possible and am ecstatic about being a "YaYa." ! I like to read, go for long walks on the beach, hike in the mountains, garden, and write. I don’t like to cook, although I have not given up hope, and I like to grow flowers, although I often forget to water them. My personal life is fairly calm today, but it’s not always been that way. I’ve been an active college student, a stressed out graduate student, a dedicated military wife, a harried young Mom raising two sons struggling to balance career and family. I also know what it's like to go through separation and divorce in midlife and to learn how to live happily as a single woman.
To sum it all up, I’m a woman who is probably a whole lot like you. I have my strengths and I have my weaknesses. I have my good days and I have my bad days. I have many wonderful things in my life, but I also have had my fair share of pain. I understand the issues women face. I’ve studied them. I’ve worked in the field for 38 years. And, I’ve lived a lot of life and learned many valuable lessons that I am willing to share.
I would love to meet with you and participate in your healing and growth. If you have any questions about me or need more information to help you make your decision about whether or not I’m the right therapist for you, please feel free to give me a call or send me a text.
I look forward to talking with you!
